Minutes - December 2012

Legion Report
by Fred Lee (fotofred4u@q.com)

The William H Crippen Post 62 held their regular meeting on Monday, December 3, with fifteen members and one guest present. Prior to the meeting, a Christmas potluck was held with the Auxiliary members that was enjoyed by all. After the potluck, we held our meeting. Tim Woltjer, Commander from Dell Rapids, was visiting our Post while his wife, Sherry, was visiting the Auxiliary. She is the District 7 President and also Department President this year.

We had the salute to the Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes and treasurer’s report from the previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Tom Sieverding was not at the meeting but his report was made to the members. Service Officer Ken Struck stated there was no one on sick call at this time.

Communications included a letter from the VA Medical Centers requesting donations to their Veteran’s Holidays and Special Projects Fund. After some discussion, a motion was made to contribute to this fund.

Sergeant-At-Arms Dave Froke mentioned it would be nice if some members of the Post could take some time some night to visit our fellow Legionnaires in near-by assisted living residences. After some discussion, it was decided to do that on Friday, December 14. Those wanting to participate should meet at the clubrooms around 6:45 for driving arrangements.
Douglas Meyer said he had a benefits book for veterans that is available to anyone.
After these discussions, the meeting was adjourned.

Auxiliary Report
by Donna Beck
The William H Crippen American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62 held their regular meeting Monday, December 3. A pot luck supper with the Legion preceded the meeting. President Connie Meyer called the meeting to order with twelve members present. District 7 President, Sherry Woltjer, and her mother, Lillian Larson, were our guests. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang our National Anthem and recited the Preamble to our Constitution. The regular reports were given. We will give a donation to the Community Center.

The Sunshine Committee sent a birthday card to Loren Even and a get well card to Betty Gaspar.

Our soup and pie lunch was discussed. Dianne Struck will look for more bowls as it was hard to keep them available.
Sheryl Siemonsma and Donna Beck were at the Auxiliary’s Gift Shop at the VA where they helped veterans select gifts for their families.
Apples for the teachers and all school staff were delivered by Barb Bassett, Myrna Searl, Shirley Price and Donna Beck, for American Education Week.
Wanda Artz, Community Service Chairman, has purchased the gifts for the shut-ins and those in nursing homes, and gifts for those in the service. Several members offered to help pack those boxes.

Members are encouraged to send in their dues. We now have fifty-four paid members.
District President Sherry Woltjer talked to us about our volunteer hours as field service or home service.
The money given in lieu of a gift exchange will go toward a coat rack at the VA Medical Center.
The meeting was adjourned. Connie Meyer won the door prize.
