Dinner Party 2012

15th Annual American Legion Dinner Party - Sept 8, 2012




The 15th Annual Legion Dinner Party was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Arlis Hentges was the lucky winner of the top prize of $1,000. She is shown here accepting her prize from Past Commander Dennis Erickson. The other winners included: Claudia Hanson-$500, Leo Gaspar-$250 and Darlene Harden-$125.
Ten people won $50. They were: Charlie Beck, Tom Puthoff, Pat Viet, Karen Grosz, Doug Viet, Connie Meyer, Kathy Petri, Chris Lee, Kim Sieverding and Dan Pressler. Dan donated his prize back to the Legion and we thank him for it.

Veteran Designation


Drivers License “Veteran” Designation
Beginning July 1, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety will begin offering honorably discharged South Dakota veterans the option of having a “veteran” designation appear on their drivers license or ID card.
Veterans need to present their DD214 or a form signed by the County Veterans Service Officer.
There is a $10 fee for adding the designation or it can be added during the regular renewal process for the standard license renewal fee.

Flags at the VA Hospital



Members of American Legion Post 62 were responsible for getting the flags up at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls on July 4th this year. Members and some wives are shown here as they finished the job.

District 7 Educator of the Year 2012

District Commander Dave Saunders presented the District Educator of the Year award and check to Jay Swatek, a fifth grade teacher from Garretson at our district Spring Convention in Hartford on April 14, 2012.

District 7 Spring Convention
The District 7 Spring Convention was held in Hartford on Saturday, April 14. Post Commander Jerry Corey, Douglas Meyer, Charles Beck and Fred Lee were in attendance.
The district awarded the District Legionnaire of the Year award to Tim Woltjer from Dell Rapids. He will represent our district at the State Convention in Watertown in June.
A delegate and alternate were nominated to represent the District/Department at the 94th Annual National Convention of The American Legion in Indianapolis, IN, August 24-30, 2012.

Legion Celebrates Birthday


The Auxiliary presented the American Legion with a cake to celebrate their 93rd birthday.
The American Legion was formed March, 1919, in Paris, France, by a group of officers and enlisted men who served in WWI. The purpose was to have a veteran's organization to serve America and continue the comradeship of the war years. Pictured front left to right: Tom Sieverding, Post Commander Jerry Corey, Fred Lee.
